happy holidays! i will be busy for the rest of this month, so aside from my final monthly submission, this may very well be my last update for the year.
just for fun... here's some records that i loved this year!! before you read:
"my heart keeps getting a feeling that it sort of feels really good but at the same time I feel really bad. and when its over tears come from my eyes."
- yahoo answers, 2011-09-08
exhibition mode is an endlessly and effortlessly cool, masterful album. no gimmicks, no compromise, just damn good music. i don't think i've ever heard another modern record that makes drum breaks speak the way dazegxd does. just so damn cool.
just an insane hybrid hard techno/dariacore/plunderphonics album written almost entirely in 7/4 to boot, both hilarious and ingenious (and that's the point man!!!). forever amazed by how easily tdstr translates their memetic lexicon into masterpieces.
charli xcx - brat ( + remixes)
i've been a huge fan of Charli XCX and Friends since like 2017 (a year in music that really deserves its own piece...). if you ask me a question about XCX history before 2023 (when i got a job) i probably know the answer. today, i am just so happy to see her uncompromising vision finally get its flowers.
has a bladee feature btw so you know it's good.
Syzy - The weight of the world
this transcends.
so incredibly beautiful and intense, it feels like i'm drowning in a beam of light. despite this heavy feeling, i beg anyone who's adored the sheer joy of SOPHIE's work to listen to this album and love it for all that it is. Syzy's sound design works in perfect service of the story she wants to tell and i tear up about it.
Dancing on my own; In your face!
the future of music is sooo bright...
i cannot thank you enough for the warm reception on my work this year! i'm glad so many people like my little projects. namely, it was a really hectic experience wearing so many different hats in the span of a few months to get "r4u" out, but i'm very happy to have done it and to have something to show for my efforts. in a way, r4u is a sort of "test run" for things to come...
that being said, 14.4ml will be taking an indefinite hiatus starting in 2025.
this year, i wanted to focus on making music. next year i'll be focusing on drawing + relearning music theory veeeryyy slowly. for now i'd prefer to keep this drawing thing as separate from 14.4ml as possible; similarly, relearning music theory is going to be a very offline effort for me, so i'd just rather not try to translate it online into a monthly update like i did this year.
commitments i have made to external projects will still be honored; otherwise this site may be more silent than ever going into 2025. but this isn't the end... far from it!!! though the journey is the point first and foremost, i do have hopes that this change is going to coalesce towards something really cool for 14.4ml, even if patience is once again the key... ^_^ besides, chances are i'll find something cool enough to write about + i'll be blabbering on my bluesky anyway.
again, i am so grateful for everyone who has stayed along for the ride this year. i've learned sooooo much and it's been a blast!!! if you'd like to stay in touch, i'll still be monitoring my contacts fairly frequently (and i love hearing from you!).
all the best in the new year,
♥ fourteen four
